Styles to keep close

After so long, but I am facing professional turmoil and hence, the delay.

One of the things that always appeals to bloggers like me is when our followers come up with requests for future posts. I recently got a bunch of emails and comments for tips and posts on wearing leather and where to find it, on shopping from Big stores and so on. Mostly all I had to do was respond with links to my previous posts. However, some requests were new to the blog, so I am gonna go ahead with them.

Here are 3 trends that are somewhat evergreen and are not slave to FWs and rulebooks.

Waist Coats

A Waist coat is a sleeve less jacket and is generally a part of men's formal clothing. When I think waistcoats, my mind starts reminiscing all the Agent 007 looks over the years and how they revolutionised  men's clothing, especially the formal one. Waistcoats are mostly casual, when worn by women. Although they can be used to formalise your regular trousers and shirts, it is way better to keep it casual as they chances of going wrong with the former are way too high for a regular individual. When aiming for a formal attire, Go for the highest heels you have in your possession, only keep them looking professional. Choose pumps, may be.  You can wear a pencil skirt with an oxford shirt and a short waistcoat with that. Even when wearing trousers, you can add the coat to it and nail the office look with out a tiresome (and hot in this weather) blazer. Here are some looks for your reference.

Wearing waistcoats in casual styles is the most impressive and easily done thing. It is more about colour co-ordinating than about matching the coat with your outfit. Here are some suggestions for you.

Bottoms

This season's choices for bottoms are more about prints than the bottoms themselves. Skirts, skinny pants, palazzos, cropped palazzos and midi skirts are some of the styles that the women of the planet are crushing on for the summer of 2014. Sheer maxi skirts and palazzos and boyfriend jeans are also in. Find anything good in Florals or houndstooth and it will prove to be your very own statement right there.

Timeless styles include Lace dresses and skirts and maxi dresses. The blogging community is also loving peplum tops and pencil skirts for formal looks this fashion decade, it seems.

Redefining 'Beauty' with Luminanza

I have grown up with lectures on how family is the most powerful entity in the world. So guess what happens when sisters decide to step into the world of fashion jewellery! Damn right, they make the best of it. Our special feature today is a fashion jewellery range from Japleen and Anupreet’s Luminanza.

Luminanza's photo of Bhavna Sethi, Soma Dutta, Shreya Mishra, and 29 other people.
Who? What? Where?
Anupreet is an IT engineer with Fiserv while Japleen, in her own words, is a computer engineer in the making, a 3rd year student at the IPU, Delhi. I asked them how Luminanza was born and Japleen said, “Anupreet has been fond of jewellery since forever. With the trinket collection she started about ten years ago, which only kept growing, I was bound to get interested too. And thus there were two collectors at home. While jewel hunting on the internet, we thought of bringing to the Indian market, what we believe it has seen very less or none of, at the best and lowest possible rates.”
The ladies believe in the words of John Keats, ‘A thing of beauty is a joy forever.’ I personally am very fond of the designs they bring to the women who shop with them. It has been a while since I saw a beautiful necklace at a price as good as the ones they quote.
Anupreet says- “We wanted Luminanza to be the result of two factors, Uniqueness and Affordability.” And they have nailed that part of their aim. They did what they wanted and brought to us pieces that are found neither at local thrift shop, nor at a high-end store in a high-end mall. In their own words, their brand is about forcing you to shop with them by offering you prices that make your palms twitch till the moment you end up holding what you like.

Shopping exp
Shopping, at Luminanza, is an easy affair. There is no website for the time being, so customers can place orders in one of the following ways:
1.      Luminanza takes personal orders over Facebook. This procedure makes them utterly flexible with their policies and dealings. One can send in a simple Facebook message, wherein, they specify the product number and design they want.
2.      Orders can also be placed over emails to luminanzajewellery@gmail.com.
3.      Conversations continue over Whatsapp. People come up with queries, requests for more pictures, ask for their orders to be reserved and so on and they oblige.
Shipping is available worldwide. The charges depend upon the location and range from 40 INR, in the Delhi and NCR region, to 60-100 INR, depending the ‘where’ in India. For the Delhi Jewel-aholics, there is also the option of a personal pick-up from the girls’ place in Dwarka, Delhi.
Who doesn’t go weak in the knees at the very thought of a discount, it is, after all, our hard-earned money and every penny saved is another penny earned. A 5% discount is offered on all orders over 1000 INR. There are also referral discounts at Luminanza wherein, with each purchase, a referral code is provided. For instance, if customer A refers someone to the ‘shop’ with the code and purchases are made by their friends and acquaintances, customer A gets a 5% discount on the next purchase they make for 500 INR or above.
The Collection
In our collection, we try to include all kinds of ornaments- Neckpieces (sweater chains, chokers, princess and matinee necklaces, etc), Earrings (stud, danglers, hoops, ear cuffs), Rings, Bracelets, Anklets, Hand jewellery, Hair accessories (hairbands, clips and pins) and more recently, Watches. The styles also vary over a vast range- Vintage/Statement/ Bohemian /Ethnic Indian/Gothic/Punk; we try to bring in the best of each kind. Luminanza, thus, creates its mark not just for the most competitive rates it offers its jewellery at, but the Classiness, which our customers would happily vouch for.
Some of their favourites on the collection are:
Dainty Bronzies

A vintage-style elegant pair of hairpins, these have been one of the most popular and widely sold Luminanza pieces.

Dance of the Peacock
Again, extremely widely sold, the colours, design and quality of this product speak for themselves.

A piece of Heaven
Have you seen the heart pendant in Titanic? I think the brilliance of the gem in it, if ever replicated in fashion jewellery has been replicated in this piece. And for that to come out in a piece of this size is all the more amazing. One of our absolute favourites, this one just blinds you with its sheer existence!

Spider Web Pocket-watch
We sisters have a special penchant for the vintage, as must be evident. A pocket-watch, in this era, and such an intricately designed one at that, makes this piece another one of our personal favourites from our collection.

The little Lace, Vintage, Gothic collection
All these things combined. Need we say more?

Rangeen Affair, Drop Dangle Glamour, Floral-anza
From the same sub-collection as the Dance of the Peacock, the three of these share the same assets- excellent quality and aesthetic designs.

L&B’s suggestions for you: Our favourites at L&B are not very different from the girls’ but just for you, here are some suggestions from us. These are just the pictures. When buying any of these, you may send just the picture to Luminanza and place an order.

In Collaboration with Lace&brocade, Luminanza is offering a 5% discount on all orders for our followers at the blog, on Instagram or at our Facebook page. The discount is valid on all orders placed and paid for by the 15th of May. All you have to do is comment on this post or on the Facebook post or the Instagram post (also FOLLOW wherever you want, if you like) and claim your discount using the referral code- L2B28LUM. Finding Love this Spring- India

So FINALLY, Spring is here. This is my favourite time of the year and I have yet to meet a person whose it isn't. As mentioned quite a number of times before, the weather in Himachal is Glorious in the Summers, all Spring-ish but to us, who live here, it is still hot. So spring comes as a relief from the agonizing cold and prepares us for summers. I realised this morning that it has been a while since I took you online shopping and so, here I am with ever part and parcel of the fashion advisor that I am.

This is the time when you bring out the piles of skirts and dresses and light scarves and lace jackets and light blazers and.... Oh I could go on forever! Trends change every year but that is talking of the prints and colours. You trusted summer dresses will still be here and the flirty skirts don't have anywhere else to go. When it comes to prints, you can always experiment. I have always said and believed that what you wear has to be what you want to wear and like, even if it is our of trend. I do not mean you can go out in the juicy couture (Oh! Please Don't!!) but if the aztec is not in this summer, don't fret. You like it, you wear it, only wear it well.

1. Aztec prints- These pretty ancient looking prints will always reside a block away from Awesomeness. You definitely CAN do it this spring. In fact, similar prints that are not particularly aztec are no less Amazing and definitely deserve a place in your wardrobe. You can do it on skirts, scarves, pants, tops, shoes, caps and even jewellery and jackets. Some are right here for you-

2. Florals- What says spring better than flowers and isn't there something understated yet fascinating about flowers on your clothes. Yet again, you can wear florals in your blouses, blazers, pants, scarves, shoes, whatever. However, florals on shoes and pants are particularly an in-thing right now. There is nothing out about the print and won't even be for a while now. Some of my favourite florals are here for you-
3. Lace- Going out with your lovely someone over this time period? Of course you are! Who needs a stupid Valentine's day for that?!! Well, there is nothing sexier than Lace. It is one of those fabrics that bring out the oomph in the snap of your finger. With a lace blouse or dress, you don't even need a lot of jewellery or flashy shoes or heavy make-up. Keep it simple and your outfit will take care of it all. So when in doubt, go for lace. Here is some to keep you going-
4. Lighter summer fabrics- Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, says spring-summer better than chiffon and its siblings. Not only do these fabrics look absolutely adorable, they're immensely light and cool to wear (who doesn't want that after all the jackets and coats of the winters?) The variety that you get in these fabrics is also an upside since its variety is dizzying. Here are some for you.
5. Pastels- Spring-Summer is the time of lighter tones. Nothing looks better that pastels in these times. These colour tones are as pretty as they are prominent, despite their statement.

There is so much more and all of it cannot be posted here.
Drop me a message if you need help refreshing your wardrobe.
I'll be back soon with more shopping ideas!

All links posted above are working and active, connected with their parent websites.
Our blog does not hold any connection with any of these websites.

The Beauty of a Little Joy

Do you know what's better than a new jacket? Well, 2 new jackets and a bracelet....
I recently ordered two shackets and a bracelet and a shrug. The good thing is that I have now learnt (the hard way, of course) that Online shopping will only do me good on prepaid orders. I have ordered these very shackets thrice before and they were returned. Go Figure!!

Anyway, This is not about my problems with them, but about why I loved them. My order included 2 shackets, one shrug and a coin bracelet. Each one of them was a fascination of its own kind. The first one was the blue one. I have to admit that I expected a thicker fabric from what it looked like on the website but I liked the print and colours anyway. It was a snake print shacket in a synthetic, silk-like fabric. Owing to its thinness, I expect it to be a treat in the Himachali summers and in the spring season anywhere.I decided to wear it with an 'inch-above-the-knee' skirt in lace, a black tank and a bulleted, broad belt. I wore thigh high stocking (more like socks) and calf-length boots with it.

Tank- Puma
Belt-thrifted
Skirt-thrifted
Boots-Manali's Tibetan market (thrifted, kind of)
Muff-hand-woven; soft wool
Shacket-Shop Nineteen

The other shacket I got is this palm print one which is in a thicker fabric and among my loveliest buys in some time. Here is how I wore it. It can also be worn over a white T and black pants or a black leather skirt. Though there is nothing dull about it already, some casual accessories will add charm to it. I wanted to wear a pair of boots or loafers with it but the pumps did it for me.

Grey Tank-Madame
Pants-X'pose
belt-Dress Up
Shoes-Women's Square
Necklaces-Mongolia, gifted, thrifted
Ring-McLeodganj, Dharamshala
Shacket- Shop Nineteen

As for the Brand, The packing was absolutely charming and the fact that the box reached me intact was making me weak in my knees. I have received far too many consignments to know that getting one that isn't damaged on the outside is a 'once in a blue moon' affair. I am a happy woman this evening!! ^_^

PS, I am now using the boxes they sent the products in as jewellery boxes. I'll show you how its done in the new DIY column that I am about to start!!

Heart Of Gold

I have received a request from a young woman, for a poem called 'Heart Of Gold'. This poem is my bow to all the beautiful women across the Globe. Here it is for you. If you like whatever I write, Follow the blog (use the follow button to your right) and do let me know how you like the poem in the comments below.

Yes I am the Girl, with that Sought after Heart of Gold.
I have that smile that could Light up the Whole World.
Its a treasure I tend to give away for Free, Love is always in letters Bold.

I know that people tend to Lie, but I still trust every word you say.
Your smile will be the beat of my Heart, Your laugh will Brighten up My Day.
But hearts do Break and hopes are Shattered and that does take my joys Away.

I Shop and Spend and that brings me immense joy.
My secret happiness lies in those heels, strappy and High.
I dance at the thought of NEW, my Clothes are my own treasure of Troy.

Nature has a Beauty to me, that no one can Challenge.
History just means different things, one being the Stonehenge.
A day well spent will be in the Park, sitting on that lonely Bench.

I wish I could eat all day, if only I could still stay thin.
I wish I could fall in love, without getting my heart broken.
I dream of beauty, of joy to the world, if only it was there in the tune of the violin.

I enjoy my Flaws and Love the Thought of Love.
For it I'll Risk it all, even a Broken Heart is hard to Let Go of.
The Angels cry when I Shed Tears, Bestowed upon by the Mourning Dove.
But Life goes on and Nothing really ends, even if I don't make it to the Trove.

Victoria's Real Secret

Do you get that urge to shop every other day? Does a well stocked site make life worth living on some days? Well, join the brigade of awesome shoppers. India, with all its taboos and conservationists, has a certain issue with lingerie. I hate the whole concept of you can use it but not talk it. Have you ever been to the Victoria's Secret website? Well, if you haven't, I am gonna tell you why you should.

One would think that the Amazing brand, home to all the gorgeous models like Adriana Lima, Miranda Kerr, Doutzen Kroes and Alessandra Ambrosio, has nothing more to bring to the Universe than lingerie. Well, you're wrong. These people have so much more to offer than petty (but expensive enough to burn a hole in your pocket) lingerie. You can visit and explore www.victoriassecret.com if you want to. But don't blame me if you come out a changed woman. The reason for this, is simple. You will have to force yourself into denial to come out of it without buying anything. They have clothing, shoes, accessories, jewellery, cosmetics and what not. If you are a woman, there is no way in hell you will find it a waste of time. You will not regret visiting the website.

I am gonna share some of my dirty secrets from the page here. I am a shoe lover so I am gonna start with shoes. I share 4 links with you here. rest of them you will find on the website too. These are the ones that I love the most and it leaves me feeling guilty that I can't share the others (you'll have to be here all day)

Roy Raymond has given us something to treasure, people, don't insult him by considering it all lingerie.

The 14th of February is almost here and all you men must wanna treat your special ladies to something worth cherishing. But what does a man buy his woman. Well, you don't have to worry about if she'll like the design or will the colour be among her favourites. Just visit a VS showroom or the website and buy a gorgeous dress from their store. Here are some of my personal favourites.

The links 1 and 2 will be your best friends if you want to play it safe. The last thing you want to do over the Lovers' day is buy your favourite woman a dress size that is too tight (making her feel fat) or one that is too lose (making her think that you think she is that fat). In such a situation, you can/should buy her something that is supposed to stay lose. Although you will still need a vague idea of her size (which you can know from any dress hanging in her closet), you don't wanna risk it, Body types are trickier than Calculus. 3, 4 and 5 are, however, the most amazing articles for a woman with a balanced body. Lace is a lovely fabric (my personal favourite) and a treat in sync with the day you're targeting.

If you're one of those Amazing, Hopeless Romantics and are whisking her away to a beach dream come true  V-Day (and she is open enough for it) buy her some awesome trinkets. A beach needs beachwear and there is a probability that she is not prepared in terms of a wardrobe (I hope you're smart enough for it to be a surprise). You can buy her whatever you want but she will love you for a cover-up, not all women are comfortable in a bikini and guess what? A cover-up is sexier than the bikini.

VS also as a connected line called PINK. PINK has lingerie, apparel and accessories for 15-22 year old. The collection is highly teen-ish and is quirky and impressive. There is more on the website you can browse through and indulge yourself in. PINK has backpacks, bracelets and shoes too. UGGs, sneakers and flip-flops are also available with PINK as with the VS mainland.

I will take your leave for now and work towards bringing you some more info on stuff you can buy tomorrow! Shop smart and drop me an email if you need any help.

{PS, there is a gift on shopping worth $75. Check the website out}

Online shopping vs Online shopping

Oh no, I am not going to try and get your heart off online shopping at all. Personally, I am exceptionally fond of it. All it takes is an internet connection and something for it to work on. I shop online and when I don't have the time, I ask my friend to shop for  me, online again. The greatest upside is that you do not have to go anywhere or sometimes the stuff is not even available in your locality. I don't live in a Jungle but most of the clothes I love are not available anywhere in Himachal except Shimla, Dharamshala and Manali. So rather than travelling 9, 1 or 7 hours respectively, I go online on  my ipod touch and buy to by heart's content (or my wallet's capacity, whichever comes first; normally its the wallet thing). However, there are certain things that are still not possible in this way. Like when my sister was getting married in November, 2013, I could not just buy anything online. I'll tell you why.

Online shopping has a wide range of products and sites to choose from. Online Clothing brands are so many now that you'll lose count before you find that one piece you just fall in love with. For instance, Last night I spent 3 hours online to find a pretty enough peplum dress for my friend and I had been to I don't know how many sites before I found that one thing that I just had to have. That's how I roll. Choosing clothes online is easy. There are dimensions mentioned next to the outfit and some sites even mention the dimensions and the height of their models so the buyer can relate to it and buy something as per the comparison. You can choose colors too. It's just nirvana on a screen for anyone and everyone who loves to own the prettiest stuff. However, if you're in a hurry, buy only the stuff you can be sure you won't have to get altered or exchanged.

Buying jewelery on the internet is the easiest, best and the most risk-free option. There isn't much to do. Just browse through some choices and buy what you think will suit you or whatever you want to own. The only catch is the delicacy of the product or defect upon delivery. Well, in that case, you can exchange the product on almost every available site now. However, there are some sites which do not have a customer friendly exchange policy and some that don't have any such policy at all. It is always better to read the policies of the brand before you buy anything. I know its  tedious but that's where buyers come in. They have to spend time reading such stuff and you don't have to waste time. Buyers are also a good option for men in particular since they get confused over buying clothes, jewelery, shoes or make-up for their friends or partners.

The only fine print on buying stuff online is in the shoes' section. I have shopped for shoes thrice and they have not been a perfect fit each time. If you think that it just needs a shoe size then you're mistaken. Every girl who has ever worn high-heeled shoes would know how hard it is to tolerate a wrong size. You cannot rely on a shoe size completely. Apart from the fact that shoe sizes vary with the brand, the shape of the foot is also an important information. You have to try a shoe on before you own it. Avoid buying shoes online, particularly the high-heeled ones.

Make-up and lifestyle products like curtains, oils, candles etc are also easy to buy products since they are just brand based articles. However, yet again, buy make-up products only from the trust-worthy sites or the so-called 'big names' of online shopping. There are countless duplicate products in the market and its better to not risk using those on your face, skin or hair.

Follow the blog for more on everything that Matters. ;)

This dress is a product available online and is the love of my life for now. My shopper friend now owns and rocks it!
